Medical Retinal & Vitreoretinal Surgeon

Dr Tuan Tran is a Vitreoretinal surgeon and a Medical Retinal Specialist who also performs complex cataract surgery and manages general eye conditions. He is genuine in nature and devotes time to communicate with his patients and understand their concerns.

Dr Tran graduated in Medicine from the University of Queensland and subsequently completed a Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmic science). He underwent specialist training in ophthalmology at the prestigious Sydney Eye Hospital to obtain Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (FRANZCO).

Tuan has extensive subspecialist training in Medical Retina and Vitreoretinal surgery that spans over three years across three different continents. He first completed the clinical Medical Retina and Uveitis fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital in Melbourne. He was awarded the Alan James Travelling Scholarship by RANZCO to support his Vitreoretinal surgical fellowship with the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada) as the William H. Ross fellow. During this time, he gained accreditation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada (DRCPSC Retina). To further his experience, he worked as a consultant Vitreoretinal surgeon and Medical Retina specialist at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff (United Kingdom). His broad training across internationally regarded institutions has allowed him to garner a broad perspective and a wide set of surgical skills to allow him to treat his patients with the best possible individualised care.

Dr Tran has published numerously in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at several international and local scientific meetings. He continues to pursue his research interests while being a clinical investigator in several key trials and an active reviewer in major ophthalmic journals. In addition, he has a passion for medicine in developing nations and indigenous health, and intends to continue his involvement as a visiting surgeon. He holds a public appointment as a consultant vitreoretinal surgeon at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital where he enjoys teaching the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Dr Tran was born and raised in South East Queensland. In his own time, he enjoys exploring the great outdoors and spending time with his wife and young children.
