Dr Nirosha Paramanathan is a comprehensively trained and highly effectual Ophthalmologist. Technical expertise, thoroughness, kindness, and an instinctive commitment to holistic care, are demonstrated core values in her clinical practise.

Dr Paramanathan studied both undergraduate medicine and post-graduate master’s degrees, at the University of New South Wales. She then completed five years of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology accredited training, at Prince of Wales, Sydney Children’s, and Sydney Eye Hospitals. Having acquired extensive training in both adult and paediatric general ophthalmology, Dr Paramanathan went on to undertake a three-year mentorship with internationally renowned Strabismologist, Dr Ross Fitzsimons, to advance her appreciation of the science and art, of strabismus (squint). She has now returned home to Brisbane, joining KindSIGHT and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. Dr Paramanathan expertly manages a wide range of presentations: adult cataract, strabismus, glaucoma, pterygium and paediatric strabismus, amblyopia (lazy eye) and tear-duct obstruction.

The provision of quality, equitable eye health care to all is something Dr Paramanathan feels strongly about. She has visited Myanmar several times with the Myanmar Eye Care Program, to provide both ophthalmic care to patients and training to local eye care professionals. She has done the same in Cuzco, Peru with the Volunteer Visions Program. Closer to home, Dr Paramanathan has been providing a fly-in-fly-out ophthalmic service to Dubbo and surrounding regional New South Wales for the last five years.

When not practising ophthalmology or spending time with family, Dr Paramanathan is a writer and teacher. She is the author of the acclaimed PINKY PONKY Magic series of children’s books. She is inspired by nature and is a keen hiker, having had the most amazing adventure completing the Everest Base Camp trek in 2019.
